Chapter 1789
Upon hearing the news, Fiona paused, taken aback.
They'd already found them?
It hadn't even been thirty minutes since she mentioned someone was selling drugs near the school gate. How on earth did her parents manage to track down the dealers so quickly? Fiona's curiosity was now in overdrive, her eyes lighting up with interest. "Uncle Jack..."
But before she could even finish her thought, Tricia cut in, already knowing what Fiona was itching to ask.noveldrama
"Don't ask questions you don't need answers to. Just remember, no matter how big the issue is, your parents have got it covered. Your job is to head home and catch some sleep. You've got school tomorrow morning, and missing rest isn't an option."
Tricia's words were firm, shutting down Fiona's curiosity. But Fiona couldn't help being intrigued. She was dying to know how her parents managed to crack the case so fast.
Before long, the corner store owner and his thugs were nabbed by the police, and Fiona and Alec were ushered into a car, heading back to the Costello family home.
Throughout the ride, Fiona couldn't wrap her head around how quickly her parents identified the dealers. How did they pull it off?
"I've told you before, your parents aren't as powerless as you think," Alec chimed in from beside her. "Right now, the most important thing for you is to focus on your own stuff. Uncle James hasn't said anything about leaving Beacon High, so your next PE exam scores are still going to be under his eagle eye."
Hearing Alec's words, Fiona felt like a balloon losing all its air. She wished she could be out there, saving the world alongside her parents.
Meanwhile, Sophie and Colby had traced the leads, capturing the dealers and seizing several factories. According to Isaac's prison confession, Devonport was his main supplier, funneling drugs through various channels. Luckily, they caught wind of it early enough to stop a large-scale distribution.
By destroying the stockpiles held by these small-time dealers and shutting down the factories, they were likely to have the situation under control.
After wrapping up, Sophie leaned wearily on Colby's shoulder. "I'm beat."
Late at night, their car cruised slowly through the city center. Sophie was worn out from the past few days of
relentless work. She had to admit
time was catching up with her. Twenty years had passed, and they were no longer the young and
sprightly couple they once were.
"If you're tired, just get some sleep. I'll wake you when we're home," Colby reassured her.
Odie had been roped into working overtime at the Devonport factories. Destroying those substances would take at least ten days, meaning Odie wouldn't catch a break anytime soon.
Their families were tightly knit now, and trouble for one meant trouble for all. Exhausted, Sophie fell into a deep sleep on Colby's shoulder.
The next morning, Sophie woke up to find herself in her bedroom. Colby must have carried her upstairs
without waking her. The thought net
made her smile; even at their age, Colby still insisted on these sweet gestures.
A knock on the door broke her thoughts. Fiona poked her head in.
"Mom."
"What are you doing here? Why aren't you at school this early?"
If Sophie recalled correctly, Fiona should already be at school for her morning classes.
"I'm not feeling well, so I had Alec get me a sick leave."
Sophie wasn't buying it. "You look pretty lively to me. If you don't want to go to
school, just say so. Don't bother with excuses."
She easily saw through Fiona's little fib.
What do you think?
