Jilted Ex-wife Billionaire Heiress

Chapter 123

Chapter 123 Bio-Wizard

Darya was thinking about her second brother, Brion McAllister.

Brion was a biochemist.

He held a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences and a PhD in Biochemistry.

Darya had read some of his published papers.

Brion's research focused on cancer therapeutics, molecular biology, and drug delivery systems, for which he was awarded the prestigious title of Breakthrough Scientist of the Year.

He divided his time between the lab and teaching at a university in Cordelia.

He would be more than qualified to join the Solaro project.

The only problem for Darya was-how to present the project so that it sounded interesting enough to lure her brother back into Hagen.

Two days later, Darya drove to Hagen International Airport.

She headed straight into the VIP lounge and immediately spotted the man she was looking for.

Tall and lean, Dr Brion McAllister cut a commanding figure in any room he entered.

His dark, tousled hair fell effortlessly across his forehead, lending a hint of mystery to his brooding demeanour.

His piercing eyes, framed by thick expressive brows, held a depth that seemed to reveal a well-guarded world of thoughts and ideas.

When he wasn't wearing a white lab coat, his sartorial choices were often

restricted to tailored suits in shades of charcoal and navy.

He was lounging in an armchair right now, wearing a crisp white shirt meticulously tucked into his trousers.noveldrama

The dark blue silk tie added a touch of subtle flamboyance.

The 26-year-old doctor's handsome features were matched only by his enigmatic persona.

As one of the most brilliant minds of his generation, he possessed an acute intellect and an insatiable thirst for

knowledge.

Darya knew that beneath that formidable exterior lay a guarded soul.

Those who didn't know him well might call him aloof.

Brion did have a tendency to keep others at arm's length, sometimes even his own family.

Engaging in meaningful personal connections didn't come easily to him, as he preferred the solace of his laboratory and the company of his research over idle social interactions.

His distant demeanour often left others feeling intrigued yet challenged to break through his emotional barriers.

Darya watched with a smile as two young women near her nudged each other. 'You go talk to him,' the girl in blue said.

'No, you go,' the other girl in red retorted. 'You are the one who wants his number.'

'As if you don't!' the girl in blue snorted. 'Let's go together!"

'But he's reading. The girl in red hesitated. 'Won't we be bothering him? He looks kind of serious.'

'You are right. What if he gets offended?'

'Maybe we should just leave.'

'But he's so cute!'

Darya smiled.

Her second brother often produced that kind of effect on others.

She tiptoed away, then went up to Brion's armchair from behind and covered his eyes. 'Guess who?'

'Who else?' Brion said without putting down his copy of 'Nature.' 'I hope you washed your hands before putting them on my face.'

Darya removed her hands and stuck out her tongue. 'I scrubbed them with surgical-grade disinfectant. Happy?'

Brion stood up, turned around, and examined his sister carefully before nodding. 'Relatively happy.'

He hesitated, then leaned in to give her a quick hug. 'Hello, Dolly.'

'Hi, Brion. Welcome home. hope the flight was okay.'

'No one tried to hijack the plane, if that's what you meant.'

Darya paused, stunned into silence.

Then she barked out a short laugh. 'Ha! Did you just crack a joke?'

Brion nodded, though his face remained as expressionless as ever.

'We haven't seen each other for almost four years, Darya said. 'Yet you look exactly the same. Did you cook up some magical formula in the lab that defies ageing?'

'One thousand two hundred and seventy-nine days, to be precise,' Brion corrected. 'Assuming no leap year. And no, my research does not cover anti- ageing skincare products.'

Darya sighed. 'I was kidding. Let's go."

She picked up Brion's small suitcase.

Brion hesitated. 'Sorry for cancelling the last trip home.'

She waved away the apology. 'It's nothing. I know how busy you are.'

'There's a gift in the suitcase for you. For your wedding'

Darya blinked. 'I'm divorced, Brion. That's why Avery called you last time."

Brion nodded as he digested the news. 'Then consider it a divorce gift.'

Darya smiled and shook her head. 'I hope it's not another customised DNA necklace."

'No, it's-'

'Nuh-uh.' Darya wagged a finger. 'Don't ruin the surprise.'

She led the way to the carpark. 'How long can you stay this time?'

'About a month, depending on how fast my team members recover.'

His research project had hit a snag, with over one-third of his team coming down with mono.

He would have been fine carrying on by himself, but the lab director and the university president jointly forced him to take a vacation that was long overdue.

'The kissing disease?' Darya asked, surprised. 'I thought mostly teenagers get it.' 'Eighty-sixty per cent of my team of researchers and assistants are under the age of twenty-five,' Brion said.

'Wow. So they are all geniuses, like you.'

'While the majority of them do have an IQ score of over 140, I'm not sure if that qualifies them as geniuses. The fQ tests have their limitations in measuring human intelligence, like the inability to take into account-'

'Okay, okay, got it. No need to give a lecture, Bio-Wizard.' Darya playfully shoved

her brother into the car.

She started the engine. 'So you'll be free for a whole month?'

'Relatively free. I have some feading to catch up on.'

'Then can I ask you for a big favour?'

'Depends on what the favour is,' Brion said, though he already knew the answer.

While he was forced to take a vacation, he hadn't originally planned to come back

to Hagen.

He was going to visit several other biochemical labs around the world, but then he saw the file Darya emailed

him.

'I've got this joint project with Solaro and Zenith, to work on Al-powered personal healthcare robots. We've got all kinds of experts on board-artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, mechatronics, human-computer interaction, data science and analytics, healthcare professionals, even ethics and legal experts. But I could use your input from the perspective of a biochemical engineer."

'I'm not a biochemical engineer.'
