Jilted Ex-wife Billionaire Heiress

Chapter 122

Chapter 122 Close Call

Darya looked up.

The man who saved her happened to be none other than Micah.

Stunned, Darya realised that Micah's arms enveloped her, radiating comforting warmth.

Uncharacteristically, his usually serene eyes displayed hints of anxiety and panic. Darya even caught a glimpse of her own reflection in his intense gaze,

'Are you hurt?' Micah asked in a husky voice.

Shaking off her daze, Darya extricated herself from Micah's embrace and rose to her feet. 'No, I'm fine. Thanks.

Micah picked himself up, dusted off his suit and scanned the direction in which the car had disappeared, his forehead creased with concern.

Curiosity gnawed at Darya-why would Micah show up at the Paragon Group so early in the morning?noveldrama

Perplexed, Darya asked, 'What are you doing here?'

Micah turned towards her, meeting her eyes. 'I'm here to offer apologies on behalf of the Cavanaughs. I've also arranged for a formal apology letter to be released soon.'

Darya stood there, dumbfounded.

The Cavanaughs were actually relenting this time?

'The letter will be posted on Zenith's corporate account at noon,' Micah quickly added, as if to convince her of

the truth of his words.

'An apology from your whole family?' Darya asked, still incredulous.

'Yes.'

'Including your father?"

'Yes.'

'Wow. I never expected Morton to have the guts to apologise.' Darya was amazed. 'Well, I'm off to work. I

suppose you should get going too. Again, thanks for what you did just now. You probably saved my life."

With that, Darya spun on her heels and headed off, leaving Micah behind.

'Wait!' Micah called out after her.

Darya halted in her tracks but didn't bother turning around.

'There might be something fishy about the car that almost hit you just now. Be careful.'

Micah's heart still pounding from the close call.

He had witnessed the incident unfold as soon as he stepped out of his own car.

The fear that lingered in his chest was palpable.

If he hadn't been there, Darya would likely have been struck by the car.

Taken aback, Darya said, 'Thank you for letting me know."

She would get someone to look into it.

At twelve o'clock on the dot, while the online community was still buzzing about the news of Darya's true identity, they received another shock.

An apology letter, bearing the name and corporate seal of Zenith, was posted on

all of the company's official social media accounts.

The letter aimed primarily to debunk the false rumours circulating online about Darya

Additionally, in Micah's personal capacity, he apologised for neglecting their marriage and Darya's well-being

Once again, the internet erupted with discussions:

'It's like a drama in real life. All those plot twists! What's next?'

'Tsk! I used to have a crush on Micah Cavanaugh! But now I realise all men are the same!'

"So, did they mistreat her or not?'

'Well, it's an indirect admission. Darya was brave to ask for a divorce. I've been a fan of hers ever since she unmasked the mistress. You go, girl!'

Meanwhile, inside a swanky conference room at the Paragon Group, all eyes were fixed on the person occupying

the top seat.

Avery, seated to her left, began the meeting by introducing Darya as his successor as well as the new CEO.

The board of directors voted her in unanimously-not that any objection would have been useful.

No one in that room had a fraction of the shares Darya possessed. Conspicuous by his absence was the former director Douglas Kay, who was kicked out after Avery returned from

his last business trip.

The rest of the board members were secretly relieved that they didn't go along with Douglas's hare-brained

scheme to purge Darya.

If they had, they wouldn't be sitting pretty here today.

They applauded enthusiastically as Darya gave her inauguration speech, then

offered their heartfelt congratulations.

As she exited the conference room, Glen, her capable assistant, approached with

a tablet in hand. 'Miss McAllister-

'Just Darya or boss will do.'

'Boss, Zenith has just issued an apology letter."

Darya arched an eyebrow.

That was quick!

She reckoned old man Morton would drag his feet for at least a while before he

caved.

As she skimmed the letter, she couldn't help but let out a light chuckle.

Now, that was a masterstroke of an apology.

In just a few carefully crafted sentences, they debunked the rumours swirling

around her and gave an official verdict on her marriage, and managed to do it in a

way that was devoid of warmth or sentimentality.

Clearly, Micah had his fingerprints all over it.

She handed the tablet back to Glen, who asked, 'Do we need to issue a response?'

'Nah, I don't think so.' Darya shook her head.

Glen hesitated, concern etched on his face. 'How's your wound holding up?'

Apart from Glen, no one knew about her injury-she'd scraped her elbow when Micah tackled her to the ground earlier that morning.

Instinctively, Darya touched the spot. 'I'm good, all patched up.'

'I've asked two of my men to look into the car accident. The report is on your

desk.'

'Do you have a name?' She wanted to know who tried to kill her.

'Regina Fischer, Glen spoke up. 'The driver of the car received a payment from her yesterday.'

A cold smile spread across Darya's face.

'Would you like me to do something about it?' Glen asked.

'No. Not yet. The priority right now is the Solaro project. Just make sure you keep

a copy of the evidence.'

'Got it, boss. Regarding the project, I just got an email from Mr Cooke's assistant.

He wants all three companies

to come together and set up shop at Solaro.'

'Noted. I'll give him a call later. Anything else?' Darya's mind immediately shifted

to work, forgetting all about

Regina.

This was her very first project taking the reins, and she intended to do a good job.

Glen checked his tablet. 'You said we needed to send in our own specialists if we were to have a greater say in running the joint project. I've asked HR to put out some feelers, but it's not easy finding candidates with the right qualifications and work experience on such short notice. It's going to take some time."
