Chapter 189
Chapter 189:
“She hurt my son,” I said simply, my voice low but steady, the weight of the confession filling the room.
The words hung in the air like a physical blow. Raina flinched, her hands clenching even tighter. Her reaction wasn’t lost on Dominic, who flicked his gaze between the two of us.
“Uhm,” Dominic muttered after a deep sigh. “I’ll give you two some space.” He didn’t wait for a response, turning sharply on his heel and heading toward the door. The silence he left behind was deafening, stretching long and thin like a taut wire ready to snap.
I stepped closer to Raina, the distance between us feeling like an ocean.
An insurmountable chasm stretched between us, despite the few feet that separated us. My heart pounded, each beat a reminder of the words I needed to say.
“I never apologized for Eliza’s actions,” I began, my voice quieter now, softer. “For what she did… to Liam, and to you.”
Her head lifted then, her beautiful eyes meeting mine. They glistened with something I couldn’t quite name—pain, uncertainty, maybe even a flicker of something warmer.
“You don’t have to do all of that, Alex,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Yes, I do,” I replied, firmer this time. “I failed you before, Raina. I wasn’t the man you needed me to be. I wasn’t there for you when it mattered, and I let people hurt you.” I paused, my throat tightening. “I let her hurt you.”
Her lips parted as if to speak, but no words came.
The vulnerability in her eyes was enough to break something inside me. Slowly, carefully, I reached out, my hand cupping her cheek. Her skin was soft and warm beneath my touch, a stark contrast to the icy wall she’d built around herself. For a brief moment, I swore she leaned into me, the smallest movement that sent a spark of hope through my chest.noveldrama
“I want to fix this,” I continued, my voice a whisper now. “I want to be the man I should’ve been all those years ago. I want you back, Raina. But I won’t rush you. Take your time, go at your own pace. Just… don’t push me away.”
The silence between us was heavy with unspoken emotions, a tension that neither of us seemed ready to break.

Then her phone buzzed, cutting through the moment like a blade.
She pulled back slightly, her expression shifting to one of annoyance as she grabbed her phone. A quick glance at the screen made her lips press into a thin line.
“It’s the bloody housekeeper,” she muttered, her frustration clear. Without hesitation, she answered the call and put it on speaker. “What do you want, Adelaide?”
Adelaide’s voice came through the line, high-pitched and frantic. “I’m outside, Miss Raina.”
Raina’s jaw tightened, her patience clearly wearing thin. “Why do you keep coming here? Why do you keep calling me?”
RAINA
I never thought he’d actually do it—have Eliza arrested. The Alex I used to know wouldn’t have. But now? Now I wasn’t so sure. He really has changed, hasn’t he? And those words he said before Adelaide interrupted… they lingered in my mind like an unanswered question.
Would I be stupid to give him another chance?
I snapped out of my spiraling thoughts and forced myself to focus. Now wasn’t the time to daydream. There were bigger things to deal with—Adelaide being the main one.
