Chapter 187
Chapter 187:
“Why did you do it, Eliza?” My voice was calm on the surface, but beneath it, there was a sea of fury.
Her brow furrowed, confusion etched across her face. “Do what?” she asked cautiously.
Vanessa, who had been hovering nearby, jumped in. “Alex,” she said with a nervous chuckle. “Maybe you should sit down and talk this through. Eliza’s just—”
“Stay out of this,” I snapped, turning my glare on her. My voice cut through the air like a blade, silencing her instantly.
“I’m not done with you either,” I added, my tone sharp. “You’ve got a lot to answer for, Vanessa. Don’t think for a second that I’ve forgotten how you played a part in all this.”
Vanessa flinched, her mouth snapping shut as if she’d been slapped. She took a step back, her earlier bravado evaporating. Good. I wasn’t done with her yet either. She was part of the reason my life was turned upside down.
Turning back to Eliza, I leaned in closer. “Why did you hurt my son?” I demanded, my voice lower but no less intense.
Her eyes widened, panic flashing briefly before she masked it with faux innocence. “What are you talking about?” she stammered.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” I growled, my fists clenching at my sides. “You poisoned Liam. You thought I wouldn’t find out?”
Eliza’s hands trembled as she reached out toward me, her voice shaky. “Alex, I didn’t—”
“Don’t you dare lie to me!” I roared, cutting her off. My voice echoed through the room, making Vanessa gasp audibly.
Eliza’s facade cracked, her lip quivering as tears welled in her eyes. “I just thought…” she began, her words tumbling out in a desperate rush. “I thought if Liam wasn’t in the picture, we could… we could have a life together. Just us. You were always so busy with him, so consumed by him. I wanted you to see me, Alex. I wanted us to be together like we were supposed to.”
Her words hit me like a freight train. The sheer selfishness, the utter disregard for my son’s life—it made my blood boil. My hands acted before my mind could catch up, and I slapped her across the face. The room went deathly silent as the sound echoed. Vanessa gasped, but I didn’t care.
Eliza stumbled, clutching her cheek as she looked up at me with wide, terrified eyes.

“You tried to kill my son,” I said, my voice eerily calm now. “You’re not a woman, Eliza. You’re a monster.”noveldrama
She opened her mouth to protest, but I wasn’t done. Grabbing her by the collar, I hauled her to her feet. She let out a strangled cry as my hand tightened around her throat.
“Alex, stop!” Vanessa screamed, rushing forward.
“Stay out of this,” I barked, my glare pinning her in place.
Eliza clawed at my hands, choking out sobs as she begged for mercy. “Please, Alex… I didn’t mean to—”
“Didn’t mean to?” I roared, my grip tightening. “You didn’t mean to poison a child? To ruin lives? You disgust me.”
Her face turned red as she gasped for air, but I didn’t care. Memories of Liam hooked up to machines, fighting for his life, flashed before my eyes. My vision blurred with rage, the sound of the hospital monitor beeping echoing in my head.
But then, faintly, I heard Raina’s voice in my mind. “Alex, stop. You’re better than this.”
With a deep, shuddering breath, I released Eliza. She crumpled to the floor, coughing and gasping for air. I stepped back, pulling out my phone. My hands shook as I dialed.
