Chapter 106: My Brother is Just Built Different
Chapter 106: Chapter 106: My Brother is Just Built Different
"Izumo, your little brother... he’s something else!"
Seeing is believing. When Mikan and Kamizuki Izumo arrived at Training Ground 10, they found Kamizuki Hikari lying on the grass, leisurely enjoying the breeze and sunlight.
Meanwhile, Nara Shikamaru was training hard nearby.
The sight left Izumo completely dumbfounded.
"Mikan, isn’t that the Nara clan’s kid? What’s he doing here?"
"You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?!" Mikan nudged Izumo, unsure how to even approach Hikari now.
She had assumed Hikari would be diligently teaching children how to train. But seeing the reality before her, she wanted to dig a hole and disappear.
"Whatever, let’s just go talk to him." Izumo took Mikan’s hand, giving her a silent boost of courage, and the two walked over to Hikari.
As for Shikamaru, he glanced at them briefly before continuing to punch the paper in front of him. The once-soft paper had stiffened after being soaked in blood, making each strike send sharp pain through his hand.
"Big bro, Mikan-nee, you’re blocking my sunlight."
Izumo: ???
Mikan: ???
Is this really how a younger brother greets his older brother?!
Ignoring their baffled expressions, Hikari casually sized them up. When he noticed their tightly clasped hands, a grin spread across his face.
"I knew you had it in you, big bro! You totally won Mikan-nee over!"
Izumo shot his brother a glare. ’At least give me some dignity in front of your future sister-in-law, don’t pull this nonsense!’
"Um, Hikari..." Mikan, now in an unfamiliar position, hesitated, unsure how to phrase things.
"Enough with the hesitation. You two came here to tell me you’re getting married, right?"
Izumo nodded stiffly. His brother wasn’t wrong.
"And what, if I said no, would you two actually break up?"
Mikan shook her head—absolutely not.
"Exactly! So here’s my heartfelt blessing: may you two grow old together, stay united forever, and have lots of kids—quickly. Oh, and brother, for the sake of expanding our Kamizuki clan, you better put in the work!" Hikari stood up, winking at his brother with a "I’m counting on you" look, making Mikan blush furiously.
As expected, the Hikari she knew was never serious.
Remembering how he’d shamelessly flirted with nurses at the hospital, she knew just how unreliable he was.
As for kids? Two at most—one boy and one girl would be ideal. Two boys or two girls would be fine too. But any more than that? No way.
That was Mikan’s initial thought—until Hikari pulled out a bankbook from his pocket.
Her entire worldview shifted.
So much money.
There was no way she’d earn that much in her entire life.
As the head nurse of Konoha Hospital, Mikan’s salary was decent—better than the average nurse, but far below actual doctors.
"Since you two are getting married, here’s the savings my brother put aside. From now on, sister-in-law, you’re in charge of it!" Hikari didn’t mention that it was his money.
After all, the wages Izumo earned as a gate guard barely covered his own expenses. Even if he saved a bit, it wouldn’t be much. Hikari couldn’t bear the thought of his brother struggling financially after marriage.
"Ahem, Hikari, you’re finally handing over the cash!" Izumo puffed up his chest, trying to play it cool, though he glanced nervously at Mikan.
As an honest man, he was terrible at lying.
"Hikari, thank you for your approval. And about expanding the Kamizuki clan... I think it’s a great idea!" Mikan said, swiftly pocketing the bankbook before Izumo could even reach for it.
If she weren’t part of the shinobi system, she might not have known Izumo’s actual financial situation.
In Konoha, only Special Jōnin and above could be considered well-off. Regular Chūnin and Genin? At best, they lived comfortably—but saving up an "Asuma’s-worth" of money? Forget about it.
Even if Izumo had starved himself for years, he wouldn’t have saved this much—especially with normal social expenses.
"Yeah, I always knew you were the best, Mikan-nee!" Hikari shamelessly praised her, conveniently forgetting the times they’d nearly come to blows at the hospital.
(Hikari: Times change—even a three-year-old knows that! Mikan is my sister-in-law now. Would I really try to break them up? Only an idiot would do that!)
"Of course! But I’m not the one who’s gonna be having kids—you are!" Mikan pointed at Hikari, smiling sweetly.
"Wha—?!" Hikari recoiled. "Nee-san—no, sister-in-law—I’m a man! How am I supposed to give birth?!"
"Oh, shut up!"
Mikan rolled her eyes. "Obviously not you alone. But you can find a girl to have kids with! A few new nurses just started at the hospital—all very pretty. Want me to introduce you? I’ll even help set things up."
"Uh..." Hikari opened his mouth, but Mikan cut him off.
"No ’uh’-ing! If you’ve got the skills, marry a couple of girls. Konoha doesn’t have a rule saying men can only marry one woman!" As soon as Mikan said it, Izumo’s eyes lit up.
"But if someone starts having funny ideas..." she narrowed her eyes at Izumo, "Hikari, you wouldn’t mind if I performed a little ’snip-snip’ surgery, would you?"
Izumo instinctively shrunk back, a sudden chill running down his spine.
"Sister-in-law, I’m not thinking about marriage yet!" Hikari admitted, taken aback by Mikan’s sudden enthusiasm for his love life.
"That’s fine! You can start slow—people grow step by step. I bet you’re not thinking about marriage because you haven’t met the woman you want to protect for life. From now on, your love life is my mission. I’ll scout the hospital for you—find someone with a great personality, a killer body, a beautiful face, and the perfect temperament to make you happy!" Mikan’s words hit Hikari right in the heart.
He did want a woman like that.
But with so many women in the world, he was spoiled for choice, drifting from one to the next without knowing which one to commit to.
"Uh, I still have to train the kids. Big bro, why don’t you take sister-in-law home? I’ll visit when I have time!"
"Right!" Izumo quickly dragged Mikan away before the conversation escalated into Hikari marrying every woman in Konoha Hospital.
That kind of future would be... way too enviable—no, terrifying! noveldrama
(Izumo, walking away: Honey... didn’t we forget to discuss the wedding date with Hikari?)
(Mikan: Since he’s fine with it, let’s just pick a good day soon. Or do you have other ideas?)
(Izumo: No, no! I’d marry you today if I could!)
(Mikan: That’s more like it.)
