The Lady Nun Vows Revenge

The Silent 724

The jailers barely managed to save Margery Sedgwick's life, but it was clear she wouldn't be waking up anytime soon.

The warden had no choice but to order, "Take her back for now!"

"Back to her original cell?" The jailer hesitated.

The warden paused, remembering the group of beastfolk that had been held in Margery's old cell.

They had nearly finished her off last time, sending her back would be a death sentence.

She'd only just been rescued; he couldn't let those savages get to her now.

So, the warden asked, "Any empty cells available?"

The jailer shook his head. "His Majesty's been furious lately, so many people have been brought in that we're packed to the brim. There's not a single empty cell left.”

"Not even a single one?" The warden was in disbelief.

"Nope, not a single one," the jailer replied, shrugging helplessly.

The warden was even more helpless. With all the cells full, he couldn't just turn her loose outside.

At that moment, the warden's apprentice spoke up with a suggestion. "Sir, hasn't that one cell always housed only a prisoner? He's been quiet recently, why not place the doctor in there?"

At the mention of "that one cell," an uneasy look flickered across the warden's face.

After hesitating for a while, he gritted his teeth and said, "Fine, just let her stay in there for a couple of days."

Just like his apprentice said, that prisoner had been pretty quiet lately. Moreover, it was only for two days. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

The warden intended to move Margery once another cell opened up. In the meantime, he ordered two jailers to take her to a temporary one.

"Ugh, so hot." In her semi-conscious state, Margery felt like a blazing furnace was pressed tightly against her back.

When the heat became unbearable and she was drenched in sweat, her eyes suddenly flew open as she jolted awake.

This time when she woke, the bloodthirsty crowd from before was nowhere in sight.

Clearly, her plan before passing out had worked.

'Thank goodness,' Margery thought, a wave of relief washing over her.

Before crossing here, she was a medical postgraduate student at Halberd

University, so she could assess the warden's health just by observing him.

At the time, to save herself, she claimed he didn't have long to live-an exaggeration, perhaps. However, if he kept up his unrestrained indu and drink, he likely only had two or three years left.

Now that she had got the warden on her side, barring any surprises, she

shouldn't be dragged out for more torture anytime soon.

However, she needed to figure out a way to deal with these injuries."

Otherwise, with the condition of this body she had inherited, she wouldn't last much longer.

While Margery was lost in thought, she suddenly sensed something moving behind her.

At the same time, an abrupt voice echoed, 'So fragrant, so cool, feels so nicel The voice seemed to echo right inside her mind, making her heart skip a beat. Margery thought, "Wait... wasn't there a furnace behind her?!"

Because Margery's back was covered with wounds, the warden and jailers had to lay her on her side when they brought her in.

Well aware of her condition, she hadn't dared to move or turn over since waking up, let alone glance behind her.

Only then did Margery suddenly realize something was wrong.

Especially when a scorching breath puffed against the nape of her neck and a large hand slid around her waist, Margery's hair stood on end.

"Back off!" Margery shouted. She jerked her elbow back in a sharp, hard strike.

The person behind her let out a grunt of pain and instantly recoiled.

Gritting her teeth against the pain, Margery turned to look. In the dim cell, the hulking figure from before was now curled up in the corner, clutching its head and trembling violently.

"Ouch! Ouch!' The masked prisoner's voice echoed in Margery's mind.

'The cool, fresh one... she hit me,' the prisoner's thoughts whimpered.

The voice echoed again, familiar, yet not. Margery frowned, unsettled by a sense that something wasn't quite right.

"Who... are you?" she asked warily.

The hulking figure in the corner lifted its head, revealing a masked face. After a brief glance at Margery, it harrumphed loudly and turned away.noveldrama

'Ouchie, that hurt! No-no talk to you!' The masked figure's childish voice echoed in Margery's mind.

"What the...?" Margery's face twisted in even deeper bewilderment.

He hadn't even opened his mouth, yet she could actually hear his voice in her

ears.

She wondered if those were his thoughts.

After hesitating for a moment, Margery continued in a tentative tone, "Sorry, I didn't mean it. You just startled me, that's all."

Her voice was still weak, but at least it sounded a little stronger than before. Hearing Margery's apology, the hulking figure in the corner finally turned to look at her again.

The masked figure just stared at her in silence for a while, saying nothing.

A good while later, still crouched and hugging his knees like a little mountain, he finally began shuffling his feet, never standing up, just inching his way back behind Margery and pressing up against her.

'Great, right on my wound,' Margery thought, utterly speechless as pressure landed on her injured back.

"Um... could you maybe scoot over a little? My back is kind of hurting," she asked weakly.

Hearing this, the hulking figure did "scarcely budge", just enough to technically count as moving. However, it was as if he hadn't moved at all, still pressing right up against Margery.

Margery was completely at a loss for words. "Oh well, I'll just move myself then," Margery thought resignedly.

With great effort, she propped herself up and shuffled about half an arm's length

to the other side before lying back down.

She'd barely settled when that guy behind her crowded her space again.

Margery scooted away, and he crowded right in.

She scooted away again, only for him to crowd right back in.

Finally, Margery closed her eyes and took a deep, steadying breath.

Grimacing in pain as she turned over, she thrust out her hand to block his approaching body. "Buddy, ever heard that distance makes the heart grow fonder? If you squeeze any closer, you'll crush me to death right here today!" Right after she spoke, Margery looked up to find the masked man staring at her with sparkling, innocent eyes through the upper half of his mask

'Sweet, cool, comfy... huggie?'

His inner voice echoed once more, and Margery's confusion only grew.
