Matthew nodded. "To get their hands on medical literature, they'll steal, kill, cheat -whatever it takes."

Tony frowned.

"I don't get it. Right now, relations between our countries are still somewhat amicable, at least on the surface. People from all over the world can come here to study traditional medicine. Even the Eastorians can learn it. So why resort to such shady tactics?"

Matthew was struck by the question. If the Eastorians were so interested in traditional medicine, why didn't they just study it openly?

These days, students from all over the world came to study traditional medicine.

Despite its decline and the lack of certification for most traditional practitioners, interest in traditional medicine was spreading globally. Foreigners seemed eager to take it all, as if claiming it for themselves.

But the Eastorians were different.

First, they defamed traditional medicine in the media, calling it superstitious and unscientific. They seemed to want everyone to despise it. But at the same time, they were secretly seizing tomes and manuals wherever they could.

What were they trying to achieve?

As Matthew pondered, a troubling theory took shape. If traditional medicine disappeared here and the Eastorians were the only ones left with it, wouldn't it become theirs alone?

The thought left him both stunned and certain that he was onto something.

This also made him think of Nicholas. Could Nicholas have sensed this all along and sent him to recover the legacy items of the Eight Medical Sects?

Tony frowned as he looked at Matthew. After a moment of silence, he sighed.

"The Eastorians won't give us any peace. I hope you'll report this to your superiors. They need to take this seriously!"

Matthew was startled before he recalled his bluff about working for the authorities.

He nodded solemnly. "Understood. I'll make sure to report this. Let's get out of here. I need to call in my colleagues to clean up the bodies."

Tony rose to his feet. "Let's go. I need to find a place to get some rest. I haven't slept in two days. My eyelids are getting heavy."

The frustration gnawed at him. He smoked cigarette after cigarette, wrestling with his regret and wondering what to do next.

Just as he was lost in thought, his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and glanced at the screen. It was his mother-in-law, Anisha Patton.

He answered the call. "Hello?"

Anisha spoke quickly, her tone anxious, "Why isn't Allen answering? Hurry and give him the phone."

Darius hesitated, unsure how to break the news. After a pause, he asked, "Is it something urgent?"

Anisha replied, "Yes, it's very urgent. Tell him that if he encounters anyone named Matthew, he must avoid him at all costs."
