Chapter 379
Tessa said, "I'll never find another man who loves me as much as you do. It doesn't matter who you marry in the future. I'm not here to take her place. I don't need a title. I'll be content as long as I can be with you." Matthew had no idea what had gotten into her, but he wouldn't repeat his past mistakes. "I don't want to see you."
She gritted her teeth. "I don't even need a title. I'm willing to be your mistress. Isn't that enough? How else do you plan to make me suffer?"
He took a deep breath. "You're overthinking this. I'm really busy and don't have time for this."
Tessa's emotions spiraled out of control, and her eyes blazed with fury. "Matthew, you've pushed me to the edge. Whatever I do next, it's on you. Don't you dare regret it later!"
Matthew spat coldly, "Get lost!"
He had risked everything to love her and had even willingly gone to jail for her, but she had never appreciated it. It was all behind him now. He wouldn't give his love to someone who wouldn't value it.
Tessa clenched her teeth. "You've crushed my last bit of hope. You'll regret this. From now on, I won't beg or plead. I'll take what I want by any means necessary. Just wait." With that, she turned and walked away. She had already embraced the dark side and would use any trick to get what she desired. Yet, she still couldn't bring herself to destroy her life.
She wanted one last chance to reclaim a piece of their past happiness, even if it was just a fragment. She was ready to be the mistress just to get a slice of Matthew's affection. But he had turned her down. Since nothing was left worth clinging to in the past, Tessa was determined to get everything she wanted by any means necessary. Matthew would regret his decision.
She walked toward a black sedan, opened the door, and slid inside.
A man in his 30s was surprised when a stunning woman got into his car. "Uh... you must've gotten into the wrong car."
Tessa looked at him indifferently before leaning back in the seat as if it were her car. "I just went through a breakup and need a drink. Will you keep me company?"
Matthew shook his head as he watched her retreating figure. He couldn't believe that she couldn't spare a glance at Lorraine even though she was already at the kindergarten.
Tessa's world revolved entirely around herself. How could she be good at anything else if she couldn't manage being a mother?
While pondering, he spotted his daughter walking out of the kindergarten. He greeted her with a smile, "Lorraine, I'm here to pick you up."
She ran toward him with her arms outstretched. "Daddy, you really came to get me!"
The car with Tessa inside slowly rolled forward in the distance. Through the rearview mirror, she caught a glimpse of the small, blurry figure at the kindergarten entrance and froze momentarily.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she muttered, "I'm sorry, Lorraine. I know I'm not a good mother. Just move on and forget about me. I hope you never find out who I am because I don't want you to feel embarrassed."
The car stopped in front of a bar, and the man wrapped his arm around Tessa's shoulders as they walked inside. "Come on. Let's drink till we drop tonight." She responded with a smile, "Till we drop."
An hour later, Tessa guided the man out of the bar. As they passed a pile of trash, she relaxed her shoulder and tipped him off.
...
If anyone had seen how she did it,noveldrama
they would have noticed the finesse in her movements. It was a technique only a martial artist could master one that used minimal effort to achieve maximum impact
Ordinary people could only rely on strength, speed, or strategy. They couldn't master these skills with a little force to produce a powerful effect.
After dumping the man in the trash, she got into the car and drove off.
...
A lightbulb with a lampshade hung from the doorway in the small courtyard. Underneath it, insects buzzed and fluttered in the warm glow.
In the center of the yard, watermelon slices were laid out on the stone table.
Lorraine picked up each piece and distributed it. "Grandma, this one's for you. Grandpa, this one's yours. And Daddy, the rest is for you." Matthew chuckled. "Do you think I can eat all this by myself?"
She giggled. "I'll help you, Daddy. By the way, it's been ages since Rachel dropped by. When will she visit again? I really miss her."
He paused, holding a slice of
watermelon halfway to his mouth. He knew torraine would never lie. She liked those who treated her well. Rachet had always been kind and had played with her whenever she could.
What do you think?
