Chapter 376
Matthew's eyes widened in shock upon learning that Gideon was still alive. He knew how severe Gideon's injuries were, almost certainly fatal. Yet, Barrett had managed to save Gideon. Matthew hadn't seen Barrett when he left. But the fact that Barrett could save Gideon spoke volumes about his abilities.
Still, that didn't change Matthew's resolve. "Since you saved Gideon, you should know what happens if you cross me. I didn't hold back on him and won't hold back on you. Don't test me."
Barrett's eye twitched as he realized Matthew was far from ordinary. He had completely misjudged him, and now it seemed Matthew might even be considering killing him. Despite that, Barrett was determined to recruit Matthew into the Genesis Sect.
The information Barrett gathered detailed five cases, each involving a unique illness. From there, he concluded that Matthew was a genius in traditional medicine practitioners and the most exceptional young doctor he had ever encountered.
Barrett was convinced that if Matthew mastered the Genesis Sect's secret techniques, he could create a groundbreaking new approach by blending them with his own skills. This combination might even lead to the breakthrough the Genesis Sect had long sought. When Barrett realized that medical expertise might not be enough to persuade Matthew, he switched tactics.
He said, "It seems there's been a misunderstanding. The Genesis Sect is quite large, with many members, each focusing on their own research. Naturally, this means there's a range in quality among our members.
"I'm not just impressed by your medical skills but also greatly admire your character. If you join us, you'd be the sole candidate for the position of sect leader.
"You'll have access to the sect's billions of assets. Plus, you can choose from countless nurses and female disciples. I'm offering this with the utmost sincerity, and I hope you'll consider it."
Matthew just wanted him to leave. So, he replied casually, "Alright, I'll think about it. You can go now."
Barrett's face lit up with joy. "Perfect! Take all the time you need to decide. No rush since I've got plenty of patience. Well, I won't bother you anymore. You can get back to whatever you were doing."
A glimmer of hope flickered in his eyes. Whether Matthew was tempted by wealth or allure didn't matter now since Barrett had found his weak spot. With a wave andà satisfied grin, he left cheerfully.
Rachel wasn't interested in the hushed conversation between the two men, but she couldn't keep her eyes off Matthew.
Her mind was filled with memories of their time together, especially the three intimate moments they shared. The thought of it made her blush.noveldrama
She mentally scolded herself, "Rachel, seriously? It's just three times. Why can't you get over it? You're being ridiculous."
Then, she knew why she couldn't shake off thoughts of Matthew. It was because of that first encounter She had heard countless times that everyone, no matter who they were, remembered their first time the most vividly.
As Matthew approached her, Rachel's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. Her heart raced, but she forced herself to keep a cold expression. "Okay. You can go now."
He headed straight toward her as his gaze fixed on her striking face. His heart ached when he saw a distant expression replace her earlier warm smile.
There were dark circles under her eyes, which were bloodshot. Her lips were dry, even with lipstick on. She had some chapped skin, and she felt stressed out and irritated. Matthews said, "You seem to be a bit on edge during this time I've been away. Should I help you cool down?"
What do you think?
