The Great Medical Saint

Chapter 371

At those words, Levi faltered. If he said Isaac's name, it wouldn't just affect the situation with Matthew.

Even if he cut ties with Cedric and started a conflict between Isaac and the forces behind Cedric, the ramifications would be too great.

He had no idea what a battle between the top dogs would bring, but no good would come to the person who stirred up trouble.noveldrama

As Isaac's method of operation came to his mind, a chill ran down Levi's spine. He was not the only person who had chickened out. Cedric had, too. That was why he had reminded Levi.

"I did it on my own."

Cedric felt somewhat relieved. "Then bear the consequences by yourself."

Matthew frowned. "Cedric, what are you doing?"

Cedric looked troubled, but he was genuinely afraid of escalating the matter. "Mr. Grant, the fallout would be too much. I can fire Levi right now and look into his and Tobias' criminal activities. Is that alright?" Matthew scoffed. Those matters were irrelevant to him. He was looking for the mastermind.

He moved to Levi and grabbed his hair. "Tell me. Who is he?"

Levi had gotten his priorities straight. "I did it on my own. I'll take any beating or punishment right now. I'm sorry. Please spare me."

As he spoke, he raised his hand and slapped himself. After slapping himself once, he did it again and again. Before long, he started bleeding from the corner of his mouth.

Matthew's face grew colder. He knew he wouldn't get an answer. He grabbed a chair beside him and smashed it down.

Snap!

The chair broke into pieces. Blood flowed from Levi's head. After swaying a little, he fell to the ground.

Cedric watched with wide eyes. He thought Matthew was ruthless. Levi was still a deputy mayor. Even Cedric himself wouldn't dare to do that. He wouldn't be able to face the consequences. "Is he insane? How am I going to deal with this?" Cedric thought.

Matthew tossed the broken half of the chair leg he was holding, then turned to Cedric.

Cedric had a complicated look on his face. Mr. Grant, I know I need your treatment to stay alive, but you're putting me in a tight spot. You were too harsh. I won't be able to resolve this."

Matthew extended his hand and waved it, the back of it facing Cedric. The dull ring on his finger was conspicuous.

Cedric was confused. "Are you telling me to look at the ring on your hand?"

Matthew said calmly, "The fact that you do not recognize this ring proves that your station is too low. You can take a photo and show it to someone perceptive. I'm sure they'll recognize it."

Cedric was perplexed. He was aware

of Matthew's background. The latter

was a farmer from Silverbrook Village. Both his parents were farmers. There wasn't anyone remarkable in his family either.

Nonetheless, Matthew's words had stunned Cedric. He was too confident.

Cedric was a cautious man. Even if this was a bluff, he wanted to seek confirmation. "Okay. I'll ask about it."

As he said that, he pulled his phone out, took a picture, and sent it.

However, he didn't have any expectations. When he looked at Levi, who remained unconscious on the floor, he thought of calling 914. But when he noticed Matthew's cold gaze, he abandoned that thought.

As a high-ranking official, Cedric had an air of dignity that befitted his station. Every look he gave and every gesture he made was commanding.

However, he was somewhat insecure in Matthew's presence.

Matthew seemed to have an acute air of hostility about him. It terrified him. He couldn't understand why Matthew was so confident. Shortly after, a reply appeared on Cedric's phone. He glanced down at it. As he read the message, his eyes widened in shock. "Treat every word from the person with the ring as an order! Even if they direct you toward extreme danger, charge at it!"
