Before Eileen could respond, Bryan swiftly placed his hand over Gabriela’s mouth, tossed the girl into Eileen’s arms, and then scooped them both up, carrying them back to his room.

Exhausted from the day’s events, Eileen lacked the energy to argue with Bryan. She freshened up, then climbed into bed, cradling Gabriela in her arms.
