Mated To My Obsessive Stepbrother

Mated 353

"I was good to you," he whispered. "I was good to you."

blinked fast, my own throat burning.

The silence after Jake's last words was crushing. He sat there with his Jaw tight and his shoulders trembling slightly like he was trying to hold something in. But it was clear the leash on s control was fraying.

I didn't recognize him anymore.

"I was good to you," he whispered again, and this time, there was no heartbreak in his tone, only something eerily hollow and broken in all the wrong places.

I turned my head, blinking, trying to find the right words. Anything to calm the air that was thickening like a noose around my neck.

"Jake," I croaked. "I didn't mean for..."

His hand snapped out and gripped the back of my head before I could finish. My gasp barely made it out of my throat before he pulled me forward, fast and hard, crushing his mouth against mine.

1 jerked in shock at the desperation and roughness in his kiss.

I whimpered, my hands flying up to push at his chest, wriggling and fighting, but he was too strong and too

far gone.

My heart was screaming. I shoved harder again, my palms colliding against his collarbone until finally, finally, I twisted away just enough to break free, gasping for air.

I yanked at the door handle and practically threw myself out of the car.

The cool night air slapped me in the face. Gravel bit into the soles of my shoes as I ran a few feet before spinning around,

my chest heaving.

Jake followed me.

He stumbled out, his eyes wide and manic under the single yellowish gleam of streetlamp above us. His hair was tousled, and lips red from the forceful kiss, while his hands were twitching like he didn't know what to do with them.

He didn't look like Jake anymore.

"Don't," I warned, raising my palm to keep him back. "Don't come closer."

"Kasmine..."

"No!" I snapped, "Don't. Please. Jake, I'm sorry," I breathed, "I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry you had to you had to see it. But you have to understand..."

ir it. Sorry

I stepped back, my heart pounding so loud it nearly deafened me. My pulse thudded in my ears. My lungs couldn't catch

1. up.

"It wasn't supposed to happen like that," I said, my voice no different from cracked glass. "I didn't want to hurt you. God,

Jake, I never meant to hurt you."

Tears pressed hot behind my eyes, but I blinked them back because he was still moving and coming closer.

now have a mate," I whispered. My chest split open around the words. "I belong to someone else now. And

I need you to "let me go."

His face contorted. Something darker had taken root.

But he shook his head, almost childlike. "No," he rasped. "No, you don't get to say that. Not after everything. Not after what I gave you. I gave you my heart, Kasniine. All of it!"noveldrama

"I'm sorry..." I sobbed.

"Just love me back, and I'd save you, Mine. I will, I swear. We still have time." He rushed his words, and I got even more

terrified.

"What do you mean, Jake? Stay away from me!" I panicked and yelled, about bolting when he lunged. Before I could even suck in a scream, his hand shot out, gripping the back of my head with a force that made my neck snap forward. His mouth crashed into mine again.

Ltwisted violently, panic surging like ice through my veins. I shoved at his chest, fingers clawing at his arms.

"Get off me! Jake, stop!"

I stumbled back across the gravel, nearly falling as I broke free. My legs moved quickly, carrying me down the empty road.

The road spun under my feet. It was freezing.

"Kasmine!" Jake's voice roared behind me. "Don't you run from me!"

I spun around with my arms out and my palms lifted.

"Don't come any closer!" I shouted, "Don't!"

Jake slowed, but his eyes gleamed, glassy, and crazed under the moonlight.

"I loved you," he said. "I still love you.

You think I'm going to just let you ave

go? After all of this? Allow me

you

from them, Kasmine! No one

can save you. Not even Kester!"

And then he surged forward again with his arms outstretched and his eyes locked on mine like he was

about to devour me

whole.

But just before he reached me, a wet, horrible squelch filled my ears.

Jake jerked and froze.

His eyes widened in confusion at first, then pain... A deep, soul-shattering pain.

His lips parted silently as if to say something, but no sound came out.

I gasped and stumbled back when I saw blood. So much of it.

It poured out of his chest in a thick, dark stream. It soaked through his shirt, smeared down his abdomen, and gushed over

his hands as they reached for something or someone who wasn there to save him.

"I staggered backward, my hands flying to my mouth. My scream never made it past my throat.

Jake swayed.

His knees buckled. He hit the ground hard, facedown, like a puppet whose strings had been cut.

I stood transfixed, with my eyes wide, unable to move.

"No..."

He was dead.

I slowly lifted my eyes and saw someone standing behind Jake, with his face

blank as stone and his expression carved om ice and ath.

And in his fist was Jake's bloody heart... It was still beating.

My knees nearly gave out.

"No..." I rasped. "Kester... what have you done?"
