Alex lifts his chin, lighting his cigar back up and she shake shards of glass off of his pants. "You are being ridiculous, Ruby," Alex says behind a thick plume of smoke. "Stop wasting time. This man knows where Santos has taken Romany, and we're trying-"

"DON'T YOU SAY HER FUCKING NAME!" I scream and every other sound in the room including Alex, so help me, seems to silence itself. I'm shaking with rage, yet my gun hands remain steady. "Ten fucking years!" I shout. ""TEN years! You were one of my best friends!"

He rasps, "Ruby-"

"SHUT-THE-FUCK-UP!" I spit. "I am talking now, do you understand? I am the one with the gun." Then I grin, tossing him a wink. "But that's not all I brought. I can't wait to show you. I'll make sure you swallow a fat dose of it before Damien bends you over."

Alex fumes, "Stop that! I'm trying to tell you something, Ruby! If you'd only-"

"No. You lost the right to talk to me. You and I- "I sneer at him "-we've been through a lot. But that was the past. And the past doesn't mean shit. Not any more. You see, I've always known you were a sorry bastard. I knew it was a risk bringing her here. But in all my worries, and with all my doubts, never did I think you would allow her to be-" my voice echoes "-DRUGGED AND RAPED right there in front of you! Right where I left her so that she could be SAFE! You sorry son of a bitch. You'll be lucky if I leave your KNEES. Now where the fuck is that DILDO?" I shout out to the ceiling. Tiny is taking too fucking long for my liking. "If he takes too long, you can use Alex's Glock."noveldrama

Damien snickers, and although I'm in no mood to laugh and chat with him either, I ignore it for the sake of moving on.

"You are not going to do this Ruby," Alex states pointlessly. "I'm not going to let Damien fuck me.

Now I have to laugh, "You don't have to let him. In fact, I don't want you to LET HIM. He's going to rape you, not fuck you. In case you haven't heard, there is a difference."

"Goddamn it Ruby - I'm in love with her!"

The sudden ringing in my ears threatens to shake my gun. This lousy little fuck. "Excuse me? I know I didn't just hear that bullshit lie come out of your mouth."

Alex shouts, "It's the truth. I'm in love with her. Fuck."

I hiss, "No. Not fuck. Rape. I thought we went through this already."

"She loves me too,” Alex says softly, frowning down at the floor like a pussy.

I snicker, "Oh yeah? From what I hear she loves quite a bit of you. One or more of you, even. You know what they say, one is a handful, two's a chore, three's is a crowd, and four's a murder. One less of you fuckers won't matter. Not when she has three more just like you. I'm willing to bet that she'll forgive me. But on the off chance that she won't - just know I consider it worth it to see you bleed all over your precious oakwood floor."

"You don't understand," Alex pleads.

"I sure don't.".

Alex sighs, "I didn't do it for profit."

"Oh no?" I reply sarcastically. "Well that's a relief."

"I was jealous and angry. I was-"

My eyes bulge at his nerve and I scream, "You are STILL fucking talking and I am over

it."

"I was weak. I-"

I laugh sharply, cutting him off yet again, "You don't seem to get it, Alex. There's nothing you can say. Nothing. Not a damn motherfucking thing. You and I are no longer friends. You and I are now enemies."

He clenches his teeth. "The bosses will kill you Ruby."

"They are welcome to try. In fact, I look forward to it."

Damien speaks up, "Ruby-"

"Shut up, Damien. You fucking failure. Selfish as you are, at least I don't have to kill you. But you didn't do your fucking job. You are a lousy excuse for a bodyguard and a man. You and I aren't friends anymore either. I warned you." My voice shakes, "I FUCKING WARNED YOU!" Tears burn behind my eyes as I stare at a pair of the weakest men I have ever known. "You promised me. You lied. That is all."

Mickey stands, and I watch him out of the corner of my eye. "Ruby, put the gun down. Precious time is being wasted. We still have to figure out where she is. The longer we take the further away she gets."

Mickey glowers at me, accepting my words without argument. He blames himself for what happened. Huh. I *might* decide to take him too. "I was dealing with the professor."

"You fucking loser," I snap with a roll of my eyes. "You were lost out trying to impress her. That stupid prick was harmless compared to your goddamned cousin. Really?"

Mickey nods, his bright green gaze flashing toward Alex. He thinks I won't shoot the bastard. He really thinks I'm just blowing off steam. Well, then he's in for a fucking shock.

"Why did he set you free Ruby? Why did he let you go?" Alex asks me suspiciously, as if I have anything to hide.

I send him a withering look. "It doesn't matter dickhead."

"It does."

"No," I say matter of factly. "It doesn't. Because I don't answer to you, you little bitch. Not anymore."

On the center of the dining table, a phone begins to ring.

Alex attempts to reach for it and I shoot the table about an inch from his hand. "GODDAMN IT! Ruby!" Alex snarls.

I smile, having cocked the hammer back again. "I'm really hoping you make me waste these bullets, because when they're gone I get to fuck you up with my bare hands and that's always more satisfying."

The phone rings again. "Don't you fucking touch it," I snap. My eyes find Santos' man. "Answer it," I tell him and he drags himself up from his seat to fumble with his phone. That's when I notice his fingers are broken. "Christ," I hiss. "What the fuck did they do to you?"

"Who cares, Ruby?" Alex snaps.

He does as asked and right away I hear Antonio's deliciously deep voice crest over the

line. "Amigo?" *Damn him for being so much of an asshole. Damn him.*

"Boss."

"It's okay. Don't talk. I know she is listening. I know she can hear me."

"What do you want, coward?"

"Just to hear your voice. I'm surprised you're not in the air by now. Maybe you're not

as good as I thought."

"Fuck you."

"Ohhh Ruby..."

*Don't you dare say it.*

"I cannot wait to see you again. Don't forget to take my man with you when you come.

He is the only one other than myself and your cousin, who will be able to reach me from here on out."

"Fuck off!"

"The clock is ticking, Mi Reina. You should hurry."

The line goes dead.

Alex scowls, his eyes flaring. "What did he call you? What little pet name was that?

Eh?"

Damien swallows, watching me a little more warily. "Her called her... his queen."
