Chapter 24
Zion left, locking the door behind him. With someone guarding the entrance, I found myself stuck inside.
Looking around the empty room, I felt a wave of frustration wash over me. After spending the whole night comforting Selena and now dealing with Zion's antics, my stomach was in knots from anger. I decided the best solution was to try to sleep it off.
When I woke up, I found Selena sitting beside me, cupping my face in her hands, her eyes just inches away from mine. I was startled by her sudden closeness.
"Great! You're still here, Hud! I knew you loved me!" she cheered, clapping her hands and bouncing with excitement.
Remembering the medical records Zion had shown me made me swallow hard. I still felt a twinge of unease. Regardless, I needed to find a way out. Zion was acting unlawfully; he had no right to confine me.
"Selena, where's your phone? Can I borrow it for a moment?" I scanned the room, hoping to find her phone. She had been on a video call with Zion just hours
earlier, so it had to be somewhere in the room.
"Phone?" she murmured, then got up to search her bed. After a while of
rummaging with no luck, she started tossing the blankets and smashing things in a fit of rage, looking like an enraged lion.
"Where's my phone? Why is everything gone? Aah!" She pulled at her hair, yelling.
I was puzzled by her sudden outburst, but I couldn't just stand by. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her hands to stop her from pulling her hair, trying to soothe her. "It's okay, it's just a phone. If we can't find it, we'll buy a new one. We have the money for it, so don't get upset."
My calming words seemed to work. Her emotions settled down a bit, and as I helped her back onto the bed, I noticed her phone tucked in the corner beneath the pillow, wedged between the wall and the frame. Seeing her calm down made me feel relieved, so I handed the phone back to her.
When she saw her phone, her face lit up with joy, like a child who just found a long-lost toy. She held it up and showed it to me, grinning.
"Hud, I found my phone! I'm not someone who just loses things. I cherish my stuff! Please don't leave!"
Watching her excitement, I felt a mix of helplessness and concern. I wondered if her episodes had affected her brain. But when she caught my doubtful
expression, her mood shifted again. She put on a serious face, holding the phone up to me.
"What do you want my phone for?" Her voice turned sharp and her gaze icy, resembling the stern demeanor she had at work.noveldrama
I hesitated, not daring to ask her directly for her contacts, nor could I tell her I wanted to call Sylvia to help me escape. If she found out I had a girlfriend after our divorce, there would be hell to pay. I had to think fast.
"I was just feeling bored. My phone is broken. Can I borrow yours?"
After a moment's thought, she nodded. "Oh, okay, then you can have it." She handed me the phone and even kindly unlocked it.
Just when I thought she would actually let me keep it, her expression suddenly hardened. She snatched the phone back from my hands and smashed it to the ground, shouting in fury.
What do you think?
