Chapter 422
Miranda was, in all honesty, just a regular person.
When it came to Elian, as a boyfriend, he actually ticked a lot of boxes.
What came next-that was a problem for Future Miranda.
Still, this was her first time really giving this kind of thing a shot.
In her last life, she'd spent most of her time hustling.
She'd carried more than her fair share of responsibilities for someone so young, and almost every waking moment was focused on herself and her goals.
As the heir to NexMed Labs a family legacy stretching back a thousand years— she needed to keep her grip on that position. Talent was only part of it; she had to work even harder for everything else.
Sure, plenty of people had tried to win her over. She'd just never cared enough to notice.
Speaking of her would-be suitors...
She pulled out her phone and scrolled back to the file Charles had sent her.
There was also a new, unread email.
Charles had sent over a fresh autopsy report.
"Couldn't get the sample. It's locked down. But hey, maybe try staking out the next murder scene?" Charles's message had that signature dark humor of his.
Miranda opened the report, reading it as she headed back to her room.
Honestly, after seeing Susie Everhart's case, she didn't really need the sample or the report anymore.
But she still read it, carefully.
The autopsy was top-notch-done by a big-name forensic pathologist.
Of course, reports like this were never made public. This one was even marked confidential.
So the fact that Charles had managed to get his hands on it? That took some serious skill.
He must have had a world-class hacker on his side.
The findings matched her suspicions, lining up perfectly with what she'd found in her own tests on Susie.
So now she was sure.noveldrama
That guy from Crow's Eye was using voodoo.
He was the source of the curse in Susie's body.
It was just pure luck that the Everhart siblings had strong enough constitutions to survive it.
If it had just been voodoo showing up, she wouldn't have been all that surprised.
After all, this world was a parallel of her own-most of the rules and storylines played out the same.
What really threw her off was this:
She'd seen this particular voodoo before.
And the person using it... well, she had a bit of history with him.
He wouldn't have followed her here, would he?
A week from now, the museum was hosting a special exhibit.
If Crow really turned up...
Well, he'd probably be there.
And if it really was him, then, well-small world.
She couldn't help but feel a little anticipation.
She deleted Charles's email and shot him a quick "Got it" in reply.
Right before bed, Elian texted her.
"Next time we meet, will you kiss me first?"
Miranda stared at the message for a second, about to type a reply.
Another message popped up.
"If you don't want to, I'll just kiss you first. ["
Miranda raised her eyebrows and sent back a meme.
When Elian saw her reply, his grin stretched wider than a slice of watermelon at a Fourth of July picnic.
Watching Elian smiling like a kid in a candy store, Mr. Ashcroft all but rolled his eyes.
"You don't waste any time, do you?"
Elian set his phone down lazily. "If I'm not quick, someone else might just whisk your future granddaughter-in-law away."
Mr. Ashcroft snorted. "At least
aware. If my future

granddaughter-in-law runs off, don't bother calling me Grandpa more."
Then something seemed to occur to Mr. Ashcroft. “Sebastian... I can't figure that kid out. Is he really into Miranda too?"
Elian didn't answer, but at the mention of Sebastian, his eyes turned a little colder.
Suddenly, he asked, “Grandpa, how much do you really know about the Everhart family?"
Mr. Ashcroft frowned, surprised. "Why are you asking about them all of a sudden?"
Elian didn't answer directly. "No reason. I just feel like the Everharts aren't as simple as they seem."
Mr. Ashcroft's frown deepened. "Of course they're not. The Everharts are every bit as well-connected as our family. There's been someone in politics from every generation, always in powerful positions. Sebastian's a standout, but the fact that he chose to take over the family business? That was a shock."
Elian smirked. "Seems like the

"Every single President, actually."
What do you think?
