"Aw, what a gentleman,' Harley commented.

Callan took a slight bow. 'See, that's why I prefer to keep my XY chromosomes."

'Are you saying girls can't be gentlemen?' Harley challenged him.....

'Gentlemen,' Callan emphasised the last three letters. 'As in, men.'

'Girls can be chivalrous, too! Harley retorted.

Micah stood in the distance and watched them banter.

She never smiled like that when she talked to Felicia or Judy.

The smile vanished as soon as she turned around and saw

It was like an internal switch had been flipped.

She went from 'relaxed and having fun' to 'alert and on guard' in a matter of seconds.

And all because of him.

Ryan went on the attack first. 'What a surprise to run into you here. I hope we are not interrupting your date.'

He was not so subtly referring to the rumour of Darya dating Callan.

'Where's Avery?' he asked deliberately.

If Callan was really involved with Darya, that question was bound to piss him off.

But Callan ignored Ryan as if he was air.

He hated Micah and, by extension, anyone associated with that man.

No one spoke for a long, awkward minute.

Micah broke the silence, 'Hello, Darya. I didn't know you were an investor in the brand.'

And he didn't know she could walk like a supermodel.

He had so many questions, but Darya didn't look like she was in the mood to answer them.

'It's getting late,' Callan pointed to his wristwatch. 'We should leave.'

'Yeah,' Harley chimed in. 'Bianca's probably waiting for us in the car.'

They carried on talking as if Micah weren't there.

Micah was about to remind Darya about the meeting they had with Solaro, but a woman's scream pierced the

night air.

'Oh my god! Regina!"

He spun around when he recognised his sister's voice.

'You are bleeding! Felicia was crying and shouting for help,

A trace of panic flitted across Micah's face.

He sprinted towards the source of the sound.

The catwalk was constructed outdoors.

There was an expansive lawn, with only parts of it illuminated with lights.

Darya watched Micah dart into the darkness.

She didn't miss the mention of Regina's name or the look on Micah's face.

He truly cared about that woman, she thought bitterly.

'Wanna go take a look?' Callan asked Harley.

He wasn't interested in what happened to Regina, but Harley, as the organiser of

the show, had a responsibility

to her guests.

The trio followed in Micah's direction.

Not far from the audience section, Regina was lying in Felicia's arms.

Her forehead and knees were covered in blood.

Her eyes were screwed shut.

She seemed to have passed out.

'What happened?' Micah knelt beside her and tried to stop the bleeding on her

knee with a handkerchief.

Felicia was crying and talking incoherently.

'Pull yourself together!' Micah scolded his sister. 'Have you called for an ambulance?'

Felicia pointed to her purse lying on the grass beside her.

Micah swore under his breath.

He yelled at Ryan, 'Call an ambulance!'

Felicia sobbed, 'I don't...I don't know what happened. She just...I just turned around for a second. The next thing I knew, she was on the floor and bleeding.'

'Did she have a fall?' Micah took note of the bruises on Regina's shins. 'Looks like she cut her legs.'

His handkerchief was soon soaked in blood, but the bleeding had not stopped.

'Is there a doctor here?' Micah shouted.

His face was full of anxiety.

Regina suffered from a rare disorder, haemophilia.

Her blood couldn't clot in the typical way due to a lack of clotting factors.

Any small cuts or bruises could become fatal as she might bleed out.

'We have a first-aid kit backstage,' Harley said. 'I'll go get it.' She started running.

Darya stood in the crowd, watching with an impassive face.

'There's nothing we can do here,' Callan whispered in her ear. 'Let's go.'

'She's faking it,' Darya said.

'What?'

'She's faking it,' Darya repeated.

'The blood looks real to me,' Callan said.

'She's not passed out. She's awake. Look at her eyelashes fluttering.'

'Huh. Callan rubbed his chin. 'So, what's she doing? Playing the damsel in distress?'

Like she always did. Walk into a door, fall down the stairs, take a tumble. Then start'

rescued.' Darya lowered her eyes.

Regina would engineer some kind of injury, then make a panicked call to Micah, who'd fly to her side.

Then he'd call Darya and demand she get to the hospital pronto and give blood.

It was always the same routine.

Callan patted her shoulder. 'We are not white knights. Let's get out of here.' Darya nodded.

Felicia spotted them. 'Wait!'

She grabbed Micah's hand. 'She can't leave! Regina needs a blood transfusion."

The crowd fell silent.

Darya stopped in her tracks.

She turned back and fixed her eyes on Micah, waiting.

What would he do this time?

Would he order her to roll up her sleeves and give blood, like he always did?

Their arrangement was nullified.

She wasn't obligated to give blood anymore.

Callan was furious. 'What the hell? She's not giving blood to that woman.'

Avery told him what happened to their sister in the past three years.

It had taken a tremendous amount of willpower for Callan not to do something to

pay back Darya's heartless ex-husband and his manipulative mistress.

He would not stand here and let them use his little sister as a mobile blood bank

again!

He stepped in front of Darya, trembling with rage. 'Don't you dare lay a hand on

her!"

Ryan sided with Felicia. 'But she's the only one with the right blood type.'

Felicia nodded. 'You are not going to watch her die, are you?'

Regina was secretly pleased with Felicia's reaction.

She would have smiled if she wasn't supposed to be 'unconscious."

All that time spent sucking up to Micah's sister had finally paid off. Darya ignored them.

She waited for Micah's response.
