Seeing Brion, he approached with excitement. 'Brion!"

Brion hugged his father, a rare smile on his face.

The butler, Billinger, brimming with excitement, instructed the household

employees to start preparing a banquet and tidy up the rooms.

Avery came home two hours later.

It was the first time in four years that everyone was here.

The family sat down for a long overdue reunion dinner..

Brion spent the next day getting over jet lag.

Unlike his boisterous brother Callan, he wasn't used to the idea of lying around the house and doing nothing.

So he insisted on joining Darya on her trip to Solaro, claiming he was ready to work.

'Okay. But I have to pick up someone else before heading into the office.'

Darya drove him to Callan's apartment in North Park Residences.

As soon as she opened the door, Marshmallow bounded over and leapt into her arms. 'Mommy! I missed you

so much!'

Darya hugged the dog. 'I missed you too, Marsh.'

Last night, she gave Callan an earful when she realised he'd left Marshmallow alone in the apartment.

She turned to Brion, holding Marshmallow in her arms. 'This is Marshmallow. Marshmallow, meet my brother,

Brion.'

Marshmallow blinked. 'Wow! You're better-looking than Callan!'

Brion raised an eyebrow. 'A talking dog?"

'I am an Al-powered personal companion dog,' Marshmallow explained. 'Speech

is just one of the many functions I'm equipped with.'

'So, a talking dog.' Brion repeated.

Marshmallow gave an unhappy yip, 'I can do more than just talk!'

'It's a new product developed by Solaro,' Darya said. 'Some of the technology applied here will be used in our joint project as well. I took Marshmallow home for a beta test.'

Brion picked up the dog and examined it. 'Very life-like. I underestimated the progress domestic Al technology

has made.'

'Come to the lab with me and you'll see more!' Darya knew she had her brother hooked.

Marshmallow took an immediate liking to the handsome stranger and kept wagging his tail enthusiastically, even tried to lick Brion's face.

As they arrived at the Gerber Lab, Marshmallow immediately became the centre of attention.

Brooke Urner rubbed his head affectionately. 'Little traitor, do you miss us?' Marshmallow tilted up his chin. 'Not really. I've made a lot of new friends.'

'You little ingrate.' Brooke straightened up and noticed the newcomer.

'Brooke, this is Brion... Miller.' Darya made the introductions.

Brion used their mother's surname and went by Brion Miller when he went overseas to study, not wanting to

be given special treatment because of who his father was.

Brooke's eyes widened. 'You mean, Doctor Brion Miller? Of Lorendale University? Breakthrough Scientist of the

Year?'

Darya smiled. 'Yup, that Brion Miller.'

'Oh!' Brooke's face was flushed with excitement as she rushed forward to shake Brion's hands. 'Dr Miller, I've

heard so much about you! What an honour to meet you!'

Brion kept both hands in his coat pockets and just nodded at Brooke, who was undeterred. 'I read your paper on tumour suppressor genes and their role in cancer prevention. It was absolutely brilliant!'

'I thought. you majored in Materials Science,' Darya said.

'I had a minor in Biochemistry,' Brooke said.

'Doctor Brooke Urner developed the battery that powers Marshmallow,' Darya

said to her brother. 'She'll also be working on the joint project.'

'Hello,' Brion said simply. 'Lithium-ion or lithium-sulfur?'

'For Marshmallow? Lithium-sulfur with an Al-optimised battery management system. I picked Li-S for their higher energy density, which means they can last longer.'

'How did you overcome the challenge regarding the degradation of sulfur cathodes?' Brion asked.

'Well, I incorporated carbon nanotubes into the cathodes to provide more structural support and improve electrical conductivity. Though I recently read a paper that proposes an alternative solution of electrolyte improvement...'

Darya smiled as she watched her brother and Brooke Urner engage in a lively yet highly technical conversation.

It seemed that Brion's month-long stay at the lab was off to a good start.

The door to the lab slid open.

Reece Cooke strolled in. 'Good morning, Miss Miller. Or should I say, Miss McAllister?'

Darya smiled as she greeted Solaro's CEO. 'Morning, Mr Cooke. Just call me Darya.'

'I see you've brought Marshmallow along. Any feedback for the beta test?"

'A few. I've compiled a list and given it to Dr Code.'

'Good. Thanks. I guess we should set off. The joint project is located in another

lab not far from here. About

fifteen minutes drive.'

Darya left Marshmallow in the lab as Dr Code wanted to run some diagnostic tests on it.

She introduced her brother to Reece.

'Dr Miller.' Noticing the surname, Reece cast a meaningful glance at Darya before shaking hands with the biochemist. 'I've heard so much about you. Welcome aboard. I'm thrilled to have you with us for the next

month.'

Reece drove.

A short while later, the car pulled up outside a glass-and-chrome building.

As soon as Darya got out of the car, she saw a group of people walking up to her.

In the lead was Micah, whose face remained as inscrutable as ever.

Darya turned to stare at Reece, who averted his gaze.

Darya knew Reece was friends with Micah.

Every time they met, she could feel Reece's feeble attempts at matchmaking.

Sighing, Darya walked on ahead. 'Let's go.'

She had no reason to ask Micah to leave-he too had a stake in the joint project.

Brion glanced at Micah indifferently before following his sister into the building. Micah watched the two of them in tandem, lost in thought.

Reece stood next to Micah and patted his shoulder. 'Still hung up on her?'

Micah said nothing.

'Forget it, man. I might try to help you out when she was Darya Miller. But now

that I know she's a McAllister, I don't think there's anything I can do, not without incurring old man Matthias's wrath.'

Micah started walking. 'I don't need your help.'

'You think you can win her back by yourself?' Reece chuckled. 'I don't think you

have a good understanding of what Matthias is capable of."
