How a Dying Woman Rewrote Her Epilogue

Chapter 594

There was no hint of humor in his expression-he was dead serious.

But Elodie refused him without hesitation. "No need. Really, you don't have to go to all that trouble. Whoever hired them, their people have already been caught. It wouldn't make sense for them to try again. I'm not scared."

She clearly had no intention of staying the night.noveldrama

After all, this place was no longer her home.

Jarrod watched her quietly, seeing the determination in her eyes.

Once Elodie made up her mind, there was never a trace of hesitation.

"There aren't any cabs around here. Take my car and drive yourself back," he relented.

He knew there were people keeping an eye on Elodie's apartment complex, so nothing would happen.

This time, Elodie didn't refuse.

It really would take a while to walk out and hail a cab, and taxis weren't allowed into this part of town.

"All right. Tomorrow, you can have someone pick it up from VistaLink Technologies," Elodie replied, picking up the keys again without even glancing around the house.

As for the so-called nursery everyone whispered about, she paid it no special attention, not even a flicker of curiosity.

Without another word to Jarrod, Elodie turned and left.

The car she drove tonight was Jarrod's Rolls-Royce, the one that had been in that accident. She was still a bit unfamiliar with it, but thanks to Jarrod's earlier instructions, she managed.

Jarrod didn't see her out he simply stood by the window, watching as she steered the car out of the driveway and disappeared beyond the garden gates.

When someone is determined to leave, nothing will stop them.

He lowered his gaze to his injured arm, staring at it for a long while before finally turning away. Taking out his phone, he made a call: "Look into Sylvie's connections. Find out who helped her this time."

Selma had spent years abroad and made plenty of acquaintances.

To be able to pull strings at such a critical moment-it was no small feat.

After hanging up, Jarrod headed upstairs to the master bedroom, unbuttoning his shirt as he climbed.

He was confident nothing would happen to Elodie now.

Elodie truly wasn't worried about any more trouble at her apartment.

The odds were slim, for one. For another, she knew Jarrod would have everything handled, no question.

As for Sylvie and her accomplices... There would be procedures to follow, but there was no way out for them now.

The next morning, Elodie dressed and drove Jarrod's car to VistaLink Technologies.

She hadn't said a word to her grandmother or the others about what had happened they'd only worry, and there was no need for that.

On her way, Elodie's phone rang. Charlie was on the line, and his angry voice demanded answers.

He'd heard about what happened last night.

The old man was fuming.

Elodie did her best to calm him down.

Charlie finally said in a low, steady voice, "Don't worry, we'll take care of it. We'll make sure you get justice. You're not alone—we're behind you."

Elodie knew things had crossed a line this time, even more serious than before. The stakes had been raised.

When she pulled

into the garage, she

ran into Esmeralda, who gasped in disbelief and hurried over to run her hands along the car. “Did you win. the lottery or something? This thing costs over a million bucks! Am I seeing things?"

Elodie just shrugged. "It's Jarrod's."

Esmeralda immediately made a face. "Of course. Only someone with his kind of money could pull this off... Wait, why are you driving his car?"

Elodie hesitated for a moment, then decided to fill Esmeralda in on what had happened the night before as they walked inside.

Esmeralda was so stunned she could barely process it. She rushed to check Elodie over, only relaxing when she was sure Elodie was unharmed.

Her face went pale with anger, and after a long moment, she managed to sputter, "Is she insane? People like that must have been raised on poison since birth!"

When they reached the office, they bumped into Alexander. Elodie mentioned in passing, "Sylvie and her crew tried to make a run for it last night. They've been caught."

Alexander's face darkened. "I heard first thing this morning. Things have gotten serious. I got word from M Whitaker investigation's done. The people after you yesterday? They were brought in from Southeast Asia. Real monsters, the worst of the worst."
