Chapter 1035
The sun was setting, bleeding crimson across the sky.
Alexia was alone behind the wheel of her white Ferrari as she pulled up to Windermere Estate.
Inside the study, Chad sat composed at his mahogany desk, pen in hand, scribbling an elegant line of calligraphy—though in this case, it was an old Latin proverb:
"In the spring, all things are renewed and shine with life."
His handwriting flowed effortlessly, bold and graceful, full of restrained power.
"Sir, Thaddeus has been discharged from the hospital," Alexia announced, her voice tense.
She scowled, thinking of Chasel. "Honestly, that Bright guy is such a pain. He actually slapped Thaddeus in the hospital-over Evadne, no less! And then he shoved me! Can you believe that? What kind of man does that? He's just...ugh, don't get me started."
Chad's expression was somewhere between amused and thoughtful as he laid out a fresh sheet of parchment. "What, he hit my brother and you're worried about him?"
"No!" Alexia blurted, shaking her head. "I just think he meddles too much. He could throw your plans off."
Her eyes darkened. "With someone like that constantly riling Thaddeus up, pushing him, I'm worried he'll get curious about Evadne-maybe even start to remember how he once felt about her. If this keeps up, who knows what old feelings might get stirred up?"
"Tonight, I want you to get in touch with this man," Chad said, pulling a file from the drawer and dropping it on the desk.
Alexia hurried over, flipping it open. Her brow furrowed.
"The Cloudtop Society? I thought that group was history. Why are you interested in one of them?"
Chad's eyes narrowed, a glint of intrigue in their depths. "Keep flipping."
Alexia turned a few more pages. When she landed on a photo of a man with a hauntingly familiar face, her jaw dropped.
"Chasel?! He was with Cloudtop?"
Chad's mouth curled in a sly smile. "Looks just like him, doesn't it? I was shocked myself when I first saw the photo."
His tone dropped, eyes cold and
sharp as a winter night. "But he's not
UT
Chasel. His name is Aubrey. He was one of Cloudtop's key players, right-hand man to Cassius-the leader. And, once upon a time, Cassius's first love."
Alexia's eyes shone with newfound admiration. "Sir... You're incredible. How did you even discover this?"
A shadow of regret crossed Chad's
face. “Because I once tried to take over Cloudtop. If Cassius hadn't stepped up and turned things around at the last moment, Cloudtop would have been mine."
He sighed, almost wistful. "Cassius outplayed me that time. I had to admit defeat."
Alexia snorted. "Yeah, well, he won't win forever. This time, you'll make him pay."
"I thought Aubrey would be Cassius's weakness," Chad mused. "But Cassius was ruthless enough to sacrifice even his lover."
He set down his pen and admired his handiwork, then looked up, eyes glittering with a dangerous curiosity. "I wonder-could Chasel be his weakness now?"
Alexia, sharper and smarter than ever after years under Chad's tutelage, picked up on his meaning instantly. "You want me to set things in motion tonight?" Chad nodded. "Thank you."noveldrama
"It's an honor, sir. I'd walk through fire for you."
With a deep bow, Alexia left the study.
Chad's pale, elegant features
seemed to grow colder, as if carved from frost. He picked up his silver lighter, flicked it open, and set fire to the parchment with the Latin verse. The flames danced, devouring the words.
Spring thunder rolls, the world awakens.
The six words flickered into blue firelight, reflected in his eyes—like a vision of
hell, or a soul consumed by vengeance.
What do you think?
