Chapter 419
While Serena and Calvin were deep in conversation, Sarah suddenly tossed her spoon aside and clutched her stomach with a grimace.
"It hurts."
Her words snapped everyone's attention toward her.
Calvin nearly leaped to his feet in alarm, and Melissa rushed to her side.
"Where does it hurt? Let me take a look!"
Sarah felt a rush of adrenaline under their concerned stares, then feigned discomfort by pointing at her belly with a pitiful expression.
Serena remained calm and composed as she gently pressed Calvin back into his seat and turned to the butler.
"Call the family doctor, and have him check her out. Also, schedule a prenatal exam at the hospital.
"Call Cole too. If his fiancée's health is really in question, he needs to step away from work and stay home with her. Eric and Hugh are more than capable of handling things at the company. It won't fall apart without him."
Her orders were sharp and efficient, and the butler immediately went to carry them out.
Sarah's face stiffened at the mention of Cole returning home. If he left the company now, wouldn't that just hand control over to someone else?
"There's no need to bring Cole back," she said quickly. "I'll just see the doctor-" "Pregnancy isn't a one-person responsibility. That child is the result of both of you. Cole should be here to take care of you," Serena cut in coldly.
If something happened to the baby in front of Calvin, he might end up back in the hospital himself. No matter what, Sarah had to keep that pregnancy secure.
Left speechless, Sarah let Melissa lead her away for the examination. The family doctor arrived in a hurry and gave Sarah a quick checkup.
"It's nothing serious," he concluded. "It's probably just some bloating from stress or eating too much. A short walk should help."
The room suddenly felt icy.
Cole had rushed back in a panic, only to find out it was... bloating? Eric's mess wasn't even settled yet.
His face darkened.
Melissa exploded, throwing a cushion as she shouted, "You brat! Can't you tell the difference between real pain and a little gas?"
"I-I was just scared something was wrong," Sarah stammered. Tears welled up in her eyes as she reached out to Cole like a child asking for
ofort. "Cole..."
Cole took a deep breath. "You dragged me all the way back here... for this? Sarah, I brought you home so that you could rest and focus on the baby-not cause drama. If you keep stirring up trouble in the Larson residence, I'll send you back to the Jansen residence!"
He turned and walked off, done with the scene.noveldrama
As he rounded the corner, he nearly collided with Serena, who was just returning
from speaking with the doctor. The impact made her stumble slightly.
He instinctively reached out and caught her by the arm. "Are you okay—"
Before he could finish speaking, Serena jerked away as if she'd been burned. She
hadn't forgotten how arrogant he'd acted in Calvin's hospital room.
Her eyes turned cold. "Save your concern for Sarah. Grandpa asked me to pass on a message. He wants you to stay home with her for a few more days. Message delivered. I'm leaving."
She should've just sent a maid to do it. Not wanting any more contact, Serena walked off without another word.
Cole stood there, frozen. His hand hung awkwardly in the air where he'd just touched her, and a bitter feeling rose in his chest.
Did Serena really hate his touch that much?
From just outside the door, Sarah, who had chased after him, saw the whole
thing. Her nails dug into the doorframe.
Was Cole still thinking about Serena?
What do you think?
