Chapter 22
Chapter 22:
Only then did my mind settle, just enough to let exhaustion take over.
The next morning arrived, carrying the weight of my decision like a storm cloud. I was at the hospital early, my heart thundering in my chest as I went over the plans in my mind, hoping Raina would be there. She’d agreed to the terms, but doubt gnawed at me. I tried to shake it off as I walked into the lobby, only to be met by the doctor—a look of unease shadowing his face.
“She was here,” he said, his voice low, “but… she left. She said she couldn’t go through with the surgery.”
A cold wave of shock washed over me. “Are you sure?” I demanded, my voice barely above a whisper. “Was it her? Or someone else—Eliza, perhaps?” It would be like her to sabotage this, to take advantage of any chance to keep Raina from Liam.
The doctor shook his head, his eyes filled with sympathy. “No, Mr. Sullivan. It was her—Miss Raina. She said she needed more time.”
Rage and disbelief exploded within me, filling every inch of my being with an intensity I hadn’t felt in years. My vision blurred, and before I knew it, I had punched the wall beside me, the sharp pain of impact grounding me in the moment. My knuckles throbbed, but the anger didn’t subside.
All of this—every calculated move, every concession—had been to save my son. And now, Raina was playing games? Her child’s life on the line, and she thought this was the time for manipulation?
I stormed out of the hospital, blood dripping from my hand, the pulsating ache a distant second to the fury burning inside me. This wasn’t over. If Raina wanted to punish me, fine, but Liam was off-limits. She would answer for this.
By the time I reached Graham Corporation, my mind was made up. Dominic was in the lobby, deep in conversation on his phone. The moment he saw me, he stepped back, signaling for his men to keep me at a distance, but I wasn’t about to be stopped.
“Where is she?” I demanded, my voice seething as I pushed past his guards, my fists clenched. “Where’s Raina? Tell her to come down to the hospital right now, or I’ll take this to court.”
Dominic lowered his phone, his expression darkening. “Calm down, Alex. She’s not here.”

“Not here?” I spat. “You expect me to believe that? She’s hiding, trying to avoid her responsibility.”
But Dominic’s face was anything but calm. “Alex,” he said, his voice strained. “Raina’s missing.”
The words barely registered, my anger twisting them into something I could barely comprehend. Missing? It had to be a lie, a ruse to make me back off. I shook my head, letting out a bitter laugh. “Of course she is. That’s all she’s ever been good at, isn’t it? Running away when things get difficult. You need to check your properties; it could be possible she stole from you and ran off.”noveldrama
Dominic’s phone rang, and I could hear the urgency in his voice as he answered, his gaze flickering to me with something like concern. For the first time, I felt a sliver of doubt creep in, a gnawing sensation in the pit of my stomach. Could it be true? Had Raina really left, abandoned her promise to save Liam?
When Dominic ended the call, he looked at me with a solemnity that sent a chill down my spine. “If you really think she left by choice, then you know nothing about her.”
“I’ll help you find her,” I said finally, with a firmness that surprised even me. “If we work together, we’ll have a better chance of finding her faster.” I hated that my voice wavered, but the urgency was real, and I wasn’t going to ignore it.
