Chapter 177
Chapter 177:
Adelaide tilted her head, a mock expression of sympathy crossing her face. “Sometimes people don’t change, ma’am,” she said, her sickly-sweet tone grating on my nerves. “It’s good you see that now.” Her words were like nails on a chalkboard, each syllable clawing at my patience. I ignored her, my jaw tightening as I turned to Dominic, needing to shift the conversation before I snapped.
“We need some time alone as a family,” I said, keeping my tone firm, my gaze locking onto Dominic’s.
Adelaide’s smile faltered, her confidence wavering as she sat up straighter. “I am family,” she said, her voice holding an edge of defiance.
I shot her a cold look, my patience wearing dangerously thin. “You know what I mean, Adelaide. This is about our family. You deserve a break.” My voice was icy, leaving no room for argument.
Her lips pressed into a thin line, but she rose gracefully, smoothing down her skirt with a deliberate motion. “If you insist,” she said, her tone tight, her expression unreadable.
I watched her leave, the tension in my shoulders refusing to ease even after she was gone. My fists remained clenched, my nails digging into my palms as anger simmered just beneath the surface. How dare she claim to be family after everything she’d done? How dare she poison us, harm the very people who had taken her in?
Dominic slumped onto the couch, a long sigh escaping his lips as he stretched out his legs. “Finally,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “I can actually breathe without her around. We need to kick her out. For good.”
I stayed standing, crossing my arms tightly over my chest as I looked at him. “We will,” I said firmly. “But we need to handle this the right way.” My voice wavered slightly as I glanced toward Faith, who had been unusually quiet until now.
Faith straightened in her seat, her brows furrowing. “What do you mean?”
I took a deep breath, steadying myself. “We went to the doctor,” I began, my gaze shifting between them. “And we found out something… unsettling.”

Dominic leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees as he locked eyes with me. “Raina, just spit it out.”
I clenched my fists at my sides, the weight of the truth pressing down on me. “Adelaide has been feeding us poison. That herbal tonic she’s been giving everyone? It’s what caused Grandpa’s death. The doctor confirmed it.”
Faith gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. “Are you serious?”
Dominic’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching as his eyes darkened with anger. “That bitch,” he growled. “She’s been poisoning us this whole time?”
“Yes,” I said, my voice firm but tinged with emotion. “And now everyone needs to get tested to make sure we’re not affected.” Faith’s face paled as she recalled something. “Is that why you snatched the teacup away from me earlier?” she asked Dominic, her voice trembling.
Dominic nodded, his expression grim. “I wasn’t going to let you drink it, not after what Raina told me.”
I swallowed hard, the memory of Adelaide’s smug face flashing in my mind. “As soon as we know who’s been affected and who hasn’t, Adelaide will be arrested and charged,” I said, my voice shaking with barely contained rage. “She doesn’t deserve to walk free after what she’s done.”
The room fell silent for a moment, the weight of my words sinking in. Faith nodded slowly, her face a mixture of fear and determination. “What’s the plan?” she asked.noveldrama
“We’ll go to the hospital tomorrow,” I said. “All of us need to get tested.” Dominic leaned back, his eyes narrowing as he stared at me. “You know this is going to look suspicious, right?” I nodded, my chest tightening at the thought. “That’s what worries me,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Let’s talk,” I said to Dominic, gesturing for him to follow me into the other room. Faith stayed behind, her expression still troubled as she watched us leave.
